Scott Tippetts

Democratic Candidate for Senate District 45

Ever since his childhood in Utah, Scott has learned the importance of service, community-building, hard work, and looking out for the less fortunate. Forty years of community service, public advocacy, and church leadership as lay clergy and missionary have prepared Scott to serve.

As a long-time colleague to the man who selected and trained the first US astronauts (Robert Voas), Scott has seen first-hand that the best leaders are usually the humble mentors who listen, who work collaboratively, and who actively seek to bring out the best in others.

Right now, there is a crisis of leadership under the Gold Dome; those who have directed Georgia’s government over the past decade have increasingly lost touch with the needs & values of their constituents.

It is time for new leadership that listens, that truly cares, that can build consensus, and that shares the values of the everyday people of Georgia.

In Georgia Senate District 45, that person is Scott Tippetts.

FAMILY MAN, Runner, OUTDOORSMAN

Scott and his wife Dianne have called Buford their home since 2010, and they can often be seen running or bicycling at the various county & city parks and greenways, with Axle the Wonder-Dog.

Their four adult children have ‘left the nest’ but Scott & Dianne share adventures with their six grandchildren whenever the kids are in town.

Their favorite hobbies include kayaking / canoeing, camping, fishing, and especially wilderness backpacking.

Scott’s Priorities

Transparency, Accountability, Fairness, Consensus

Over the past few years as I chat with neighbors and strangers around our region, I am increasingly hearing my fellow Georgians raise many of the same concerns & complaints, time and time again:

  • Unsustainable growth that outstrips infrastructure. Insane Traffic. Underfunded schools and first responders.

  • Rising utility bills for consumers — while select industries get subsidies.

  • Health insurance rates skyrocketing — while Medicaid is cut.

  • State leaders boasting about helping lure Big Business to Georgia — while small/family-owned businesses fail at some of the highest rates in the USA. And the incentives handed out to Corporate Boards seldom trickle down to their workers.

  • Lack of transparency on corporate polluters, deals given to data centers, PFAS in water supplies, etc.

  • Inadequate pursuit of scam artists and frauds; failure to staff the state’s EPD at levels needed to protect consumer safety.

  • Misplaced focus on bogus ‘culture war’ issues, while neglecting real common-sense policies that do matter — policies such as Red Flag Laws that are supported by majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.

  • Sketchy insider deals made by the Good Old Boy network at the Golden Dome. (Just check out this month’s news!)

  • And now, gerrymandering districts to unfairly ‘stack the deck’ because those who fear losing power don’t have the courage to compete in fair, competitive districts drawn by independent, nonpartisan committees.

Georgia, I hear your concerns. You are right to say that too many of our state legislators are losing touch with the needs and values of everyday Georgians. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP.

Georgians want… Livable Wages, Affordable Childcare, and Reasonable Healthcare Access, to help us survive the disastrous economic policies of a clueless federal administration that imposes nonsensical tariffs and starts oil-choking wars.

Georgians want… Fair Competition for small businesses, not favoritism of mega-corporations and billionaires’ pet projects.

Georgians want… Sustainable Smart-Growth, not overdevelopment that outstrips infrastructure, and risks public safety.

Georgians want… Honest Representation and competitive districts, not partisan Gerrymandering (by either party!)

Georgians Demand… Transparency — not underhanded Zombie Bills, devious policies, and secretive contracts.
